A man from Richmond, British Columbia has been charged with eleven serious charges, including armed robbery and impersonating a police officer, following a home invasion that resulted in the loss of approximately ten million dollars in various cryptocurrencies and luxury items. The Richmond RCMP initiated an intensive investigation lasting over a year that ultimately led to the arrest of Jin Da Xing, a Richmond resident. This incident highlights the growing trend of complex and violent cryptocurrency thefts. To combat this trend, KPMG Canada has partnered with Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics company, and will train KPMG professionals as Chainalysis Certified Investigators for enhanced methods of detecting illicit crypto transactions. Collaborations like this are important for helping crypto exchanges, financial institutions, and government agencies detect and prevent these crypto-related crimes.
