The discourse between the founder of Solana blockchain platform, Anatoly Yakovenko, and an Ethereum fan, Abdel Bakhta, has brought to light the heated competition between the two crypto giants. Mr. Yakovenko responded to a tweet by Abdel Bakhta that criticized Solana for its governance, centralization and hardware resource requirements, claiming that Ethereum lacks the credibility and fundamental philosophy of a Layer 1 blockchain platform.

Mr. Yakovenko countered Bakhta's criticism by arguing that Ethereum's value extraction is too high and that it fails to match Solana's status as a public good. He reasoned that Solana's platform governance is no different to Ethereum, as they are both open source, and can be forked by anyone to push them in the desired direction. Furthermore, Yakovenko dismissed the concerns pertaining to the platform's resource requirements, signaling that the network would experience a low full node count if these were a genuine issue.

The arguments posed in this debate have created a distinct division across the cryptocurrency community, some supporting the views of Mr. Yakovenko and others condemning him for feeding the trolls or engaging in a futile argument. Besides highlighting the competition between the two prominent blockchain networks, the exchange has also enunciated the primary purpose behind cryptocurrencies — namely the provision of public goods and the reduction of value extraction by public services.
