Filecoin (FIL) has officially launched its Filecoin Web Service (FWS) as an open-source decentralized, cloud-based alternative to Amazon Web Service (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. FWS is structured to work together with the Filecoin protocol, and provides developers a technology stack of computing, storage, and networking components that they can utilize to build decentralized applications. This makes the Filecoin Web Service suitable for a varied range of use cases. It is set up to protect the open source tools of the Filecoin protocol, called Delta Technology Stack, which assists in creating and managing storage network deals with the service.

The Filecoin Web Service is estimated to bring a much better experience than what is currently on offer from centralized cloud services providers. The major tech companies’ data centers are prone to crashing, which would not be a problem with FWS. The stack is composed of various components including its proprietary Estuary, sporting features like a Node, a Dashboard, and several APIs and SDKs for developers building atop the protocol. The Estuary Node is designed to be able to scale and be flexible, while maintaining its secure nature.

The Filecoin team believes that it can bring together the advantages of having the Level Developer Experience (DX) offered by centralized cloud services and the benefits of working with a transparent and open source incentivization protocol. With this launch, it is well on its way to achieving its goal.
