January 3, 2009: The first Bitcoin block (Block 0) is mined. This block is also known as the "Genesis block" and includes the text: "The Times 03 / Jan / 2009 Chancellor is on the brink of the second bailout for banks". This text may have been included as evidence that the block was mined on or after that date or as a political commentary on the issue.
