U.S. Shuts Down North Korean Crypto Money Laundering Network

The U.S. Treasury Department has announced the shutdown of a North Korean money laundering network that used cryptocurrency to clean millions of dollars for North Korea. The network operated through a UAE front company called Green Alpine Trading, LLC, which converted cryptocurrency into cash for the hermit kingdom. The UAE collaborated in the takedown, and the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has blacklisted Green Alpine Trading and two Chinese nationals involved in the network. North Korea has been actively targeting the crypto industry to fund its nuclear weapons program, and Green Alpine may have played a role in converting digital cash into fiat currency.
