Morocco set to legalize crypto after 2017 ban

Morocco is planning to legalize crypto assets after a ban that has been in place since 2017. The country's central bank, Bank Al Maghrib (BAM), is working on a draft law to regulate crypto assets, as well as exploring the possibility of introducing a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Currently, 134 countries are exploring CBDCs, with 66 of them in advanced stages of exploration. Morocco banned crypto trading in 2017 due to concerns about risks like money laundering and terrorist financing. However, despite the ban, Moroccans have continued to use digital assets through underground channels.
