Veterans Administration

The Veterans Administration was established in 1930, setting the stage for what would later become the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This agency has provided essential services and resources to American military veterans and their families for nearly a century.

The modern VA has three major divisions that cover health care, benefits and services, and National Cemetery administration. Through these divisions, the VA can provide resources ranging from medical and mental health care, to a variety of financial assistance to help veterans and their families make ends meet.

Health-care benefits are provided through the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and include routine health care, chiropractic care, additional treatments and therapies, mental health care, and long-term care. While some VA health-care services may require copayments, veterans may not have to pay out of pocket costs for the services they receive.

In addition to health care, the VA also provides financial assistance. Though the exact type of assistance available depends on eligibility, a few examples of VA benefits include disability compensation, education and training, life insurance, and home loans. Disability compensation is available to veterans who have disabilities as a direct result of their service. The VA also provides educational and vocational help, with tuition assistance and services like vocational rehabilitation.

Finally, the National Cemetery Administration maintains, preserves, and operates cemeteries for veterans and their families. Not only does this ensure the dignified interment of those who have served their country, but provides veterans with a final resting place honoring their service and sacrifice.

Overall, the Veterans Administration has dedicated itself to providing the best care and services available to the men and women who have served their country. From aid with medical bills and mental health, to education and insurance, the VA is an invaluable resource for those who have given so much to protect our nation.
