Changpeng Zhao, the founder of the popular cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance, announced his resignation after the company accepted the US Department of Justice's $4.3 billion fine and the charges against Zhao. The news seemed to be anticipated before Zhao's announcement, as two days earlier he had posted a cryptic tweet about Sam Altman's situation at OpenAI. As part of his agreement with the government, Zhao agreed to pay a $50 million penalty and also not assume any executive roles at Binance for three years. Binance will be allowed to continue operations once the fines are paid and Zhao resigns. Going further, Zhao shared his plans to make passive investments and hold minority tokens in startups operating in the blockchain/Web3/DeFi, AI and biotechnology fields. It is important to note however, that this information does not constitute investment advice.
