Satoshi’s Bitcoin holdings at risk as quantum computing advances, says Ava Labs co-founder

Google's new quantum computing chip Willow has raised concerns about the security of Bitcoin. Emin Gün Sirer, co-founder of Ava Labs, warned that the encryption of coins held by Satoshi Nakamoto could be cracked by quantum computing advancements. He proposed freezing Satoshi's coins or setting a sunset date for certain transactions to mitigate the potential threat. However, Sirer also mentioned that current quantum developments do not immediately pose a threat due to the limited window of opportunity for quantum attackers. Quantum technologies have long raised concerns about their impact on encryption, including in the crypto mining process. Some fear that if quantum computers advance enough, they could compromise the security of Bitcoin wallets and transactions, putting trillions of dollars at risk. However, experts argue that current quantum computers lack the capabilities to break Bitcoin encryption.
