Bitcoin Difficulty Set to Skyrocket as Hashrate Hits ‘Insane’ All-Time High of 840 EH/s

The value of bitcoin has fallen below $100,000, reaching a low of $91,530 on Feb. 2. Despite this, bitcoin's computational power, known as its hashrate, has reached a historic high of 840 exahash per second (EH/s), with a current hashrate of 837.25 EH/s. This increase in computational power has come after a drop in bitcoin's price due to debates over the Trump administration's tariff strategy. The dip in price has also resulted in a decrease in mining revenue, but this has been offset by a 2.12% decrease in mining difficulty, leading to an increase in the hashrate. The current seven-day simple moving average (SMA) for the hashrate is also at 840 EH/s, resulting in average block intervals of 9 minutes and 17 seconds. However, there are projections that indicate a potential increase in difficulty on Feb. 8, which could cause a sharp climb in the hashrate. Despite this, the hashrate is currently at 0.84 zettahash per second (ZH/s), inching closer to the zettahash threshold of 1 ZH/s.
