Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has faced backlash from crypto traders after mentioning a new token launched by Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho Gaúcho. The token, called STAR10, saw a 20% price increase after its launch, but concerns about insider trading quickly arose. On-chain analysts reported that an insider wallet tied to Ronaldinho made a profit of $4.95 million from selling the token. Zhao attempted to clarify that the token was launched exclusively on the BNB Chain and warned investors about copycats on decentralized exchanges, but traders criticized him for even mentioning the token, accusing him of indirectly endorsing it. The STAR10 token had already faced controversy due to doubts about its legitimacy and Ronaldinho's involvement in previous questionable crypto schemes.
