Valve, the company behind the online gaming platform Steam, has removed the game Piratefi from its store after it was found to contain malware. The malware, known as Vidar, aimed to deceive gamers into installing it, allowing cybercriminals to steal sensitive information like passwords and cryptocurrency wallet details. Security researchers suspect that Piratefi was a modified version of an existing game template, making it easy for hackers to distribute the malicious software. The Vidar malware has been connected to various cybercriminal activities, including ransomware attacks. The developers of Piratefi, Seaworth Interactive, have no traceable online presence, making the origins of the game unclear.
