The proposal for a "lattice-based" hashing system in Solana aims to address the scalability challenge faced by high-performance blockchains. Currently, Solana and other blockchains need to regularly recalculate the state of all user accounts, which becomes increasingly demanding as the network grows. The proposed upgrade, called Accounts Lattice Hash, eliminates this requirement by enabling instant verification without recalculating everything. It utilizes homomorphic hashing to update state verification by only processing changed accounts, maintaining the same security level while reducing computational overhead. Early implementations have shown promising results. The upgrade will be introduced through Solana's improvement process and will require network-wide activation through validator voting.
