According to John Reed Stark, a former SEC official, the agency's cryptocurrency unit is effectively no longer in operation. He noted that the unit has changed its name on LinkedIn from "Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit" to "Emerging Technologies," suggesting a dismantling of crypto-related enforcement. Stark believes this name change was ordered by Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda. The SEC's recent scaling back of cryptocurrency enforcement, including demoting a top litigator, has been welcomed by industry figures. Stark predicts that the SEC will pause or drop existing crypto lawsuits and predicts the end of SEC crypto-enforcement.
