Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev has expressed the need for blockchain technology to enable the platform to operate 24/7. While the platform currently offers 24/5 trading, Tenev stated that traditional infrastructure would make it difficult to expand to 24/7 trading. He mentioned that tokenization on the blockchain could provide an advantage for both retail and institutional consumers in this regard. Robinhood has been actively exploring crypto and blockchain, using stablecoins for settlements and pushing for tokenizing real-world assets. The company is positioning itself as a compliant platform for trading crypto, with a growing list of digital assets and successful initiatives like the Robinhood Trivia competition. Meanwhile, traditional stock exchanges are also working towards 24/5 trading. Cboe Global Markets, Intercontinental Exchange, and Nasdaq have all announced plans, with Nasdaq aiming for 24/5 trading by the second half of 2026.
