In a recent community discussion, David Schwartz, the CTO of Ripple, clarified that it is not possible to create new XRP tokens on the XRP Ledger. The rumors of new token creation resurfaced, but Schwartz emphasized that no code or function in the XRP Ledger allows for this. He highlighted the node-enforced rules and the invariant checking system that prevents the creation of new tokens. The XRPL validators also supported this narrative, stating that no bug attack or function could create new XRP tokens. Furthermore, Schwartz addressed the assumption that more than 100 billion XRP could be in circulation, stating that the ledger shows that the exact amount of 100 billion XRP was held in 136 wallets.
