Social media giant Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is replacing its fact-checking program with a user-driven "Community Notes" system. This move aims to simplify the company's content moderation policies, reduce bias, and foster a free flow of ideas. Meta plans to restore the visibility of political content and relax restrictions on sensitive topics while adjusting filters to prioritize severe violations. The crypto community has largely supported this shift towards decentralized content moderation, seeing parallels between Community Notes and blockchain technology values. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called it "huge" for enhancing transparency and fairness. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin noted the alignment with decentralization, transparency, and community participation values in the crypto ecosystem.
