The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is planning to introduce a new feature called "Credentials" that will offer lightweight identity verification without compromising privacy or decentralization. This feature aims to help institutions achieve KYC and AML compliance by providing a secure framework for issuing, managing, and verifying user credentials directly on the XRP Ledger. The Credentials feature will optimize user onboarding processes and can be used for deposit authorization and authorizing off-ledger transactions. It complements the recently introduced Decentralized Identity (DID) standard and can be viewed as a building block for DID. The Credentials amendment is currently up for voting and will be enacted if it receives support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two weeks.
