DeepSeek, a Chinese AI chatbot, has become a global sensation and dominated the tech sector. However, it is facing regulatory challenges as the Italian government has banned the company for alleged misuse of Italians' data, and Taiwan has implemented a partial ban. Several other European and Asian nations are also considering similar measures. In response, OpenAI, a leading AI company, has launched o3-mini, a cost-efficient reasoning model optimized for science, mathematics, and coding. OpenAI aims to compete with DeepSeek's cost-effectiveness while maintaining low costs. o3-mini is priced at $0.55 and $4.40 per 750,000 input and output words, respectively. It is available to all ChatGPT users, including free users. The ban on DeepSeek has also extended to Texas, where the use of the AI model is prohibited on any government devices.
