Crypto hackers targeted over 4,000 internet service provider (ISP) addresses in Eastern Europe, focusing on ISPs in China and the West Coast of the U.S. The hackers used a masscan tool to scan and probe for open ports and credential brute-force attacks. Their objective was to deploy info-stealing software to steal cryptocurrency addresses and private keys, as well as install cryptocurrency mining malware to mine monero (XMR) using the host's hardware capabilities.
