Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has received in-principle approval for an Investment Firm license from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). Once approved, Gemini will be able to offer regulated options and futures, including contracts for difference (CFD) instruments, throughout the European Economic Area (EEA) under the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II). Gemini plans to offer perpetual futures contracts and intends to expand its offerings for institutional and retail customers. The license is part of Gemini's European expansion strategy. Other crypto exchanges, including Coinbase and Kraken, have also obtained MiFID licenses to offer derivatives in the EEA.
