Shardbound, a strategy card battler built on the Ethereum layer-2 scaling network Immutable zkEVM, will enter open beta on Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 9. The open beta period will continue until the developers feel the game is fully optimized and ready for a full release. Shardbound is a combination of Hearthstone and Fire Emblem, featuring deck-building, card-collecting, turn-based fighting, and role-playing elements. Each match can be won in different ways, allowing players to choose various strategies. The game will allow cards to be traded as NFTs and has plans for further Web3 integration. However, the launch on Steam may complicate NFT integration due to the platform's ban on NFT games. During the open beta, Shardbound will not include NFT integration on both the Steam and Epic Games Store versions. The developers have promised to share more details about future in-game NFT integration in the coming weeks. Shardbound was originally funded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2017 and was acquired by Bazooka Tango and Immutable Games last year.
