The Ethereum improvement proposal (EIP-7781) submitted by Ben Adams aims to increase the network's throughput by 50%. It suggests reducing slot times from 12 seconds to eight seconds, allowing for more transactions to be processed. The upgrade would also increase the blockchain's capacity to handle dedicated data-storage chambers called blobs, which are used by layer-2 networks. The proposal has gained support from Vitalik Buterin and others, who believe it would make decentralized exchanges more efficient and help bridge pricing gaps between on-chain and off-chain trading venues. However, there are concerns that the increased throughput could strain validators and require additional resources. The upgrade will need to go through the Ethereum open-source development system for approval.
