Ethereum developer Paul Berg has proposed a new Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP-7809) that aims to add native-like properties to fungible tokens on the Ethereum network. The proposal introduces four new opcodes and suggests replacing the "value" field with "(token_id, token_amount)" pairs. Berg believes that this proposal will enhance user experience, make native financial products easier to implement, and promote innovation in Layer 2 applications. However, critics argue that certain parts of the proposal are redundant and resemble previous proposals such as EIP-223 and EIP-1155. If approved, this proposal could potentially expand the number of native or "native-like" tokens on Ethereum and simplify token supply management and transfers.
