The Ethereum protocol EigenLayer has been hacked on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), resulting in the posting of phishing links. Security analysts believe that this hack has led to the theft of $800,000 from a single victim. The initial phishing link claimed that a stakedrop for EIGEN tokens was happening, which has since been deleted. Similar messages, including a thread and a disclaimer warning about phishing attempts, have been posted by the hacked account. The hackers even used a picture of a dog wearing a flower headpiece to entice users into clicking on the harmful links. Security analysts have warned that clicking on these links may install malware, steal recovery phrases, or feature fake metamask sites. A victim lost $800,000 worth of mETH, and it is believed that they clicked on the phishing tweet from EigenLayer. The hacked account is still sharing phishing links at the time of writing.
