Dominic Williams, chief scientist at DFINITY Foundation, has announced major upgrades to the Internet Computer (ICP) blockchain protocol. The upgrades include enhanced security features that make ICP-native applications immune to cyber attacks and ransomware. The improvements have also enabled simplified blockchain web development and reduced app administration requirements. Additionally, the updated protocol introduces AI functionality, allowing developers to train network-resident AI models to perform various tasks, such as setting Bitcoin sell limit orders. The upgrades also include automated processes for decentralized autonomous organizations and on-chain governance. These updates have significantly increased on-chain compute on ICP's network, with a 500% year-on-year growth reported. The DFINITY Foundation, which spun out from Ethereum's community in 2015, launched the ICP protocol in May 2021 as a global decentralized chain for building various applications.
