Tanzanian billionaire Mohammed Dewji's social media account was hacked by crypto scammers promoting a fake digital asset called the "Tanzania token." The scammers used a deepfake video to convince Dewji's followers to buy the token. Dewji discovered the hack and distanced himself from the project, reporting the incident to the social media platform. Although Dewji regained control of his account, the scammers continued to post videos promoting the token. Dewji later issued an apology and warned users to be cautious of hackers. Some investors fell victim to the scam, losing $1.48 million. The scammers behind the Tanzania token were linked to hackers who breached former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's account in January.
