Crypto exchange Coinbase has filed a motion with the US District Court for the District of Colombia, requesting that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) disclose documents detailing its classification of crypto assets. The SEC has resisted Coinbase's lawsuit and asked for a three-year delay before releasing any documents. Coinbase argues that the SEC has been stonewalling its attempts to access the documents through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and has pushed for legal action. Coinbase's consulting firm, History Associates Inc., has criticized the SEC's request for a delay and accused the exchange of delaying the document release. The SEC had previously charged Coinbase with running an unregistered securities broker platform and illegally selling and offering securities.
