The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is holding imports of Antminer ASIC miners at various ports in the country, reportedly under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). While Bitmain's ASIC miners are being targeted, other Chinese producers of mining equipment have not faced the same treatment. Shipments have been delayed for up to two months, with Blockspace reporting detentions at ports including San Francisco and Detroit. The CBP has not provided a reason for the hold or a timeline for releasing the shipments. The detainments are highly unusual and businesses are advised to avoid certain entry points. The CBP and FCC have declined to respond to appeals for clarity, while the affected company has hired a legal team. One possible explanation for the halts is the alleged presence of Sophgo chips in Antminer control boards. Sophgo has faced scrutiny for breaching US sanctions by supplying chips to Huawei. Bitmain uses Sophgo chips in certain models of its miners.
