Options tied to BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) saw over $2 billion in trading volume on the first day, surpassing the trading volume of some top ETFs. However, the position limit for these options is set at just 25,000 contracts, which is much lower than the industry standard. Some analysts believe that the CME Group prefers bitcoin to trade primarily as futures rather than options. Despite the restrictions, BTC reached new all-time highs above $94,000. Options open interest also exceeded $40 billion for the first time. The launch of these options products could potentially help options catch up to futures in terms of open interest. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs also saw a net inflow of $816.4 million, bringing the total net inflow to $28.5 billion.
