The hack included a link to a fake article announcing The New York Times' entry into the crypto space. Similar attacks on social media platforms are common, with Time magazine's account being compromised in January for a cryptocurrency scam. Krugman has been a vocal critic of cryptocurrency, describing Bitcoin as "evil" and a "Ponzi scheme."
