Ben Armstrong, also known as BitBoy, has addressed speculation within the XRP community about the SEC potentially settling the ongoing Ripple lawsuit in an emergency session. This speculation arose following SEC Chairman Gary Gensler's announcement of his resignation, effective January 20, 2025. Some XRP community members believe that Gensler's departure may lead to the appeal being paused or dismissed. Although Armstrong acknowledged the speculation, he was unsure of its validity and promised to investigate further. The rumors contributed to a significant price surge in XRP, with the asset rallying over 40% to $1.60. Former SEC representative Marc Fagel noted that while there have been fabricated reports in the past, this rumor appears more credible. He also mentioned that if the appeal were to be dismissed, it would likely happen after the new SEC Chair is appointed and confirmed, allowing for more speculation leading up to the January 15 brief filing. Interestingly, Gensler's resignation date coincides with Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th president, as Trump had promised to remove Gensler from office on his first day.
