Avalanche, the tenth-largest layer-1 blockchain by total value locked, has activated its Avalanche9000 upgrade. The upgrade aims to attract developers by cutting transaction costs and making it cheaper to operate validators and build applications on the network. The upgrade includes two significant changes: A proposal that introduces a new type of validator to enable users to launch their own subnets, and a reduction in the base fee on Avalanche's main network to make computation cheaper. Additionally, the Avalanche Foundation raised $250 million in a token sale ahead of the upgrade.
