The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) granted fewer Australian Financial Services (AFS) licences in the financial year between July 2023 and June 2024 compared to previous years. In addition to the AFS licences, the regulator also granted new credit licences but cancelled or suspended others. ASIC received a total of 1,531 licensing and registration applications during the year and finalized 1,246 applications for new and varied AFS and credit licences. The regulator also approved variations for existing licensees. ASIC has been taking action against CFDs brokers and has blocked thousands of phishing and investment scam websites.
