Major tech giants Apple and Google have removed apps developed by Huione Group from their marketplaces following allegations of involvement in illicit activities. In July 2024, crypto crime investigator Elliptic exposed Huione Guarantee as a multi-billion dollar marketplace for online fraudsters. An updated analysis by Elliptic reveals that cryptocurrency wallets used by Huione Guarantee have received at least $24 billion. The recent removal of the Huione Group apps raises questions about the responsibilities of app stores in regulating content while ensuring user safety. Huione Guarantee has attempted to distance itself from Huione Group, renaming itself to "Haowang Guarantee" and removing references to its subsidiary. Despite the scrutiny, the platform's goods and services remain mostly unchanged, and business is flourishing. Huione Guarantee has also launched its own stablecoin, USDH, which lacks the functionality of traditional stablecoins, possibly to avoid asset freezes.
