Recently, a batch of five block rewards from 2009 were moved for the first time in almost two years, drawing attention to the number of untouched Bitcoin rewards from its early days. The Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) model of Bitcoin allows users to track transactions on the network, and a parser spotted the 2009 block reward transfers. Despite daily activity in dormant Bitcoin wallets, a significant portion of Bitcoin's block rewards remain untouched. Data from bitbo.io and timechainindex.com show that there are still over 1 million BTC from 2009 rewards untouched, accounting for roughly 5.4% of Bitcoin's total supply. Additionally, significant amounts of BTC from 2010, 2011, and 2012 remain unspent. In total, there are 1.71 million BTC from the first four years of Bitcoin's existence that remain unspent, equating to $108.2 billion in value or 8.73% of Bitcoin's total market cap.
