RSK Smart Bitcoin, otherwise known as RBTC, is an open source cryptocurrency based on the Bitcoin blockchain. Containing the same features as Bitcoin, RBTC also has the added advantage of allowing users to program and run smart contracts, opening up more use cases for the crypto. RSK was founded in 2015 by Diego Gutierrez Zaldivar, the co-founder of Koibanx and also the CFO of Rootstock. Unlike many other cryptos, this project had a high degree of involvement from established industries in the space, including JP Morgan and Bitmain, who are notable VC investors. What makes RSK unique is the ability to execute smart contracts within the Bitcoin blockchain, providing a more robust infrastructure and increased decentralisation. This feature opens up new possibilities, such as decentralised loans, atomic swaps, cross-chain trades and more. Another feature of the coin is its use of merge mining, which allows miners of other coins to simultaneously mine RSK without any additional effort or cost. RBTC is primarily used as a medium of exchange, like Bitcoin and other major cryptos. With the added benefit of the RSK platform and the ability to run smart contracts, users can now access a whole new world of decentralized applications. This opens up lots of new use cases that were not available before, such as decentralized exchanges, smart contracts, streaming payments, and much more. RBTC can be purchased and sold on a number of exchanges, including Bittrex and Changelly. The coin is also supported by a variety of wallets, including hardware wallets from Ledger and Trezor. Overall, RBTC is becoming more popular amongst both investors and developers, due to its comprehensive featureset and potential for future use cases.
