Jay-Z is an American artist, musician and entrepreneur who has earned numerous accolades in a career spanning over 20 years. Born Shawn Corey Carter in Brooklyn, New York in 1969, Jay-Z grew up on the streets and often clashed with the law. It wasn’t until 1996 that he began his rise to fame, signing his first record deal and co-founding the label Roc-a-Fella Records with friend Damon Dash.
