The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) is a sweeping civil rights law passed by Congress in 1990. It prohibits discrimination against disabled persons in all aspects of American life and is the basis for much of the disability rights advocacy and regulation that has occurred since then.
The ADA was a pivotal and far-reaching law for disabled Americans. It eliminates discrimination against people with disabilities in employment and all areas of life, including private and public institutions, schools and universities, transportation, stores, and more.
