Caroline Pham, the acting chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has announced that the agency will hold a roundtable meeting next month to discuss regulation and oversight of prediction market platforms. Pham criticized the previous enforcement stance against prediction markets and expressed the need for a more common-sense approach to regulation. The CFTC recently lost a court case against prediction market platform Kalshi but is appealing the ruling. Pham emphasized the importance of prediction markets as a tool for assessing sentiment and bringing truth to the information age. She is currently leading the agency in the absence of a permanent nominee from President Trump.
