Solana upgrades software as validators see fortunes shift

Solana's smaller validators were facing difficulties with declining fees and limited revenue potential due to the low price of SOL. To address this, the Solana Foundation set a cap on commissions that validators could charge while receiving support. However, the situation has since improved, with SOL's price exceeding $200 and daily validator revenue surpassing $30 million, up from $22 million in September. An upgrade to Solana's software, v2.0.14, has been released, offering minor protocol tweaks and reportedly improved performance for validators. The upgrade has led to better MEV rewards and faster transaction processing. Despite a decrease in the number of distributed nodes, recent metrics and price rally have attracted new validators to join the Solana network.
