Ripple’s XRP Ledger to Get Smart Contracts, EVM Compatibility
Ripple has announced its vision for programmability on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) in order to improve its functionality while maintaining its speed and reliability. The XRPL Extensibility Team plans to integrate custom logic into XRPL features using Web Assembly (WASM), which is efficient and compatible with XRPL's current setup. Additionally, Ripple has introduced the XRPL EVM Sidechain, which allows developers familiar with Ethereum to build applications on the XRPL using Solidity and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The XRP community has also introduced Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs), a new type of token that combines the benefits of standard crypto tokens and NFTs. These developments aim to make the XRPL more versatile and efficient without compromising its core strengths.
