Coinbase experiences “strong interest” in blockchain medals at AUS marathon

Crypto exchange Coinbase partnered with the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival to introduce blockchain-powered digital medals to participants. Over 42,000 runners took part in the marathon and received race-specific digital collectibles stored as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network Base. The response from participants, many of whom were new to crypto, was positive, highlighting the potential for blockchain technology in the sports industry. The partnership aimed to bring blockchain into the mainstream and integrate the digital and physical worlds of sports and fitness. Coinbase previously collaborated with the NBA and WNBA to offer on-chain collectibles.
