National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU)

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) is a membership-based organization, representing the interests of thousands of federally insured credit unions across the United States. It is dedicated to promoting the success of its members, and providing advocacy, education, compliance assistance and other services to protect their interests.

The NAFCU is a nonprofit organization founded in 1967 by eight credit unions that wanted a unified voice when dealing with legislative and regulatory issues. Since then, it has grown from these eight members to more than 3,000 of today’s credit unions. The organization is run by an eleven-member board of directors, which is elected annually by the NAFCU membership.

The NAFCU works to ensure that the federal government respects the interests of its members and understands the unique needs of credit unions. It is involved in both advocacy and compliance activities at the federal level, such as lobbying Congress, promoting credit union-friendly legislation, informing regulators of its members’ concerns, and helping members comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

The NAFCU also provides educational programs to keep credit unions informed of the latest developments in their fields, as well as to help them reduce their risks and run their institutions more effectively. These programs include webinars, virtual conferences, and on-site seminars. Additionally, the NAFCU publishes a number of publications, including its monthly magazine (The National) and its weekly e-newsletter.

The NAFCU offers a wide range of services to its members as well. These range from helping individual credit unions with their operations, to offering access to group purchasing services, to working with state leagues to promote financial literacy and the value of credit unions. Furthermore, the NAFCU is a strong advocate for its members, helping them through challenging times and protecting against unfair or hostile actions by federal regulators.

Ultimately, the NAFCU is committed to helping credit unions remain viable and successful, while fostering innovation and sharing best practices to help ensure their long-term success. The organization’s members have access to a wide range of services, including educational programs, government advocacy, compliance assistance, and much more. With these services and its commitment to advocating for its membership, the NAFCU is a strong voice for credit unions in America.
