Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd raised eyebrows on social media when he mentioned the controversial XRP token. Some speculated that he had been hacked, but Todd later clarified that he was dared to mention the token at a Bitcoin mining conference. The Bitcoin community has long been at odds with XRP supporters, and tensions escalated when it was revealed that Ripple was lobbying against a Bitcoin reserve. Todd has been critical of XRP in the past, stating that it only exists to make Ripple money. He also noted the discovery of bots promoting XRP, suggesting it could be an interesting legal case.
