Switzerland’s Canton of Bern to explore Bitcoin mining as solution for energy waste

The Canton of Bern parliament in Switzerland has approved a proposal to explore Bitcoin mining as a solution to excess energy utilization and power grid stabilization. The motion was adopted with a majority vote and suggests that creating a favorable environment for Bitcoin companies could give Bern a competitive edge. The Cantonal Government initially requested a rejection of the motion due to concerns about energy consumption, grid stability, environmental impact, and regulatory risks. However, the parliamentary group secured approval and a feasibility study will now be conducted on Bitcoin mining in the canton to determine if further policies or regulations should be developed.
