Meta has announced an upgrade to its Llama 3.2 language model, which includes versions that can run on smartphones without sending data to third-party servers. The heavyweight 11B and 90B parameter models can process text and images, while the lightweight 1B and 3B parameter models are designed for efficiency and limited tasks. Llama 3.2 outperformed rival models in benchmarks and has partnerships with companies like Qualcomm and AWS. It excels at subjective image identification and chart analysis but struggles with lower-quality images and complex coding tasks. Overall, Llama 3.2 is seen as a significant improvement in the open-source AI industry.
