Helium Mobile’s parent company cut nearly 40% of staff in August

Nova Labs, the company behind the Helium Mobile cell network, has undergone a significant round of layoffs, with 36% of the company being let go. The layoffs were deemed necessary to refocus on Nova Labs' core cellular business. The company saw significant growth in its mobile network business and decided to allocate more resources to accelerate the network's growth and subscriber base. The layoffs affected multiple departments, including the engineering team. Helium Mobile, which began as an IoT-focused startup, has evolved into a prominent crypto business that incentivizes users to build distributed wireless networks using tokens. The Helium Foundation now maintains the Helium IoT network, while Nova Labs focuses on crypto-forward cell phone plans, offering nationwide unlimited cell plans for $20 a month.
