Charles Hoskinson Defends Elon Musk’s Role in Trump Administration as Senate Debate Lingers
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has come to Elon Musk's defense in regards to his advisory role in the Trump administration, stating that Musk does not need Senate confirmation. Critics argue that Musk's influence over government spending needs oversight, but Hoskinson argues that executive advisors historically bypass such vetting. The controversy arose after journalist Emma Vigeland alleged that Trump had given Musk's private security federal law enforcement powers, to which Hoskinson responded by stating that Musk was funding his own protection and not using taxpayer money. The debate escalated when crypto community member Albrecht Schoenheisser argued that if Musk is taking on a major role in the executive branch, he should be subjected to Senate confirmation. Hoskinson dismissed these concerns, stating that demanding Senate confirmation for an advisor is propaganda. Schoenheisser countered by stating that Musk's role should require oversight due to the authority he has over spending cuts. Hoskinson argued that Musk lacks direct authority and still requires approval from the president and Senate-confirmed officials. Hoskinson also claimed that the controversy was driven by political motives, pointing to what he sees as Democratic hostility toward the crypto industry and referencing legal actions against other crypto figures.
