Central Bank Group BIS Names Hernández de Cos as Next General Manager

Former Bank of Spain Governor Pablo Hernández de Cos has been appointed as the general manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) starting from July 1. The BIS, often referred to as the "central banks of central banks," has been actively involved in the crypto sector, working on central bank digital currency (CBDC) projects and advocating for a unified ledger. Hernández de Cos, who has called for the European Central Bank to work on a digital euro, will oversee the operations of the BIS for a five-year term. He was also involved in setting global crypto banking rules as the chair of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.
